During the summer of 2018, while conducting biodiversity surveys across degraded farmland in Somerset, we noticed something unexpected. Small pockets of land—strips along hedgerows, corners left unmowed, patches of wetland that farming equipment couldn't reach—teemed with life. These fragments, often dismissed as wasteland, supported thriving ecosystems.
This contrast raised a question: what if we could intentionally create conditions that allowed nature to reassemble itself? Not through heavy-handed intervention, but by understanding and working alongside natural processes.
That question became root-oryx.
